Repairing alloy wheels can be a long and arduous job but in the end it can end up saving you hundreds of pounds over the course of their lifetime. Whether they have been scratched up, kerbed or had tar stick to them a DIY repair job may be the answer for you. First of all you need to sand out any scratches or marks and fill in any small indentations and carefully hammer the wheel back into shape if it has been impacted at all. Once you have sanded down the alloy wheels you should clean them very thoroughly indeed with a sugar soap and water mix to clear them of any grime. Next spray the wheels with a primer which you then need to leave to dry overnight before performing a wet sand with a very fine grade sandpaper. Spray your alloy wheels with a high quality spray paint and let it dry for around an hour before applying a lacquer and performing a wet and dry sanding to remove and roughness. Remember to test both spray paints and lacquer on an out of sight area first to ensure the cans spray properly. |
